Microsoft to update Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 on 17 October

Microsoft is all set to rollout Windows 8.1, which will start at 12:00 am on October 18th in New Zealand, that is 4:00 am October 17th in Redmond, Microsoft's headquarters. The update will be free for all Windows 8 users and can be downloaded with the help of Windows update feature.

The new update adds a lot of features to the operating system and some useful tweaks to some of the old ones. The most wanted feature in this update is the start menu, the old Windows start menu is back with Windows 8.1.

Some new add ups to the operating system include the all new Internet Explorer 11, new improved search that will be powered by bing and much much more.

Windows 7 support will end in 2015, XP and Vista ended

Windows 8 is just a few weeks away from the official release and Microsoft has announced that how long it is going provide support for the older versions of Windows. The support for Windows Vista and Windows XP has already ended, support for Vista ended this year on 12th April and XP was ended on 14th April 2009. No worries still for Windows Vista and XP users both the OSs are now in extended support, which will end on 8th April 2014 for XP and 11th April 2017 for Windows Vista.

How many versions of Windows 8

Windows has always been full of version, but not anymore with the new Windows 8 Microsoft is looking to cut down on the versions of the Windows. The new Windows 8 will have only 3 (Three) versions, a fairly less number when compared to the availability of the versions of the older operating systems from Microsoft.

The three versions of the Windows 8 are: Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro and Windows RT. The Windows 8 will be the basic version of the Windows which will be available for all the home users and will be the version coming out preinstalled with most of the PC and laptops or available for the buy, the other version is Windows 8 pro for the power users who want more out of their Windows and want to explore all the things available in Windows.

Google Chrome Metro, how will it be…?

Google has confirmed that it has started working on Google Chrome for Windows 8 which will be a Metro Version of the web browser. The Chrome team will be making the browser from the windows version and will be fully working on having the same user experience.

Windows 8 consumer preview new look of Windows

Windows have gone a long way in terms of design of the new OS, but the only part which is different is the metro UI otherwise it’s the same Windows 7 look and here I am just talking about the design.

When it comes to features it’s more of a Windows 7 plus, which in some way is a little add up to the existing Windows 7, although there is something different in the core with the new Windows runtime but still the desktop part is Windows 7 with some extra features. Now the Metro part of the Windows 8 is more like Windows Phone 7 which you can say the optimization for the tablets and big screen devices such as your PC.
